A New Method for Preparing Titanium Aluminium Alloy Powder

Due to TiAl alloys’ excellent properties, alloys have received widespread attention from researchers. However, the high energy consumption and lengthy process of traditional preparation methods always limited large-scale application alloys. This article develops a new method for preparing TiAl-based alloy powder via magnesium thermal reduction TiO2 in AlCl3-KCl molten salt. In this study, proportion AlCl3&KCl salts was determined. We conducted phase analysis on final product by studying changes temperature time. It found that TiAl3 could be obtained being kept at 750 °C 2 h, with an oxygen content 3.91 wt%. The reaction entire experiment determined through thermodynamic calculations experimental analysis, principles are discussed.
